Helping Women Find their Identity in Christ

I must admit, one of my major weaknesses is impatience. This shows up a lot in my driving.

Every morning, before I head out to work I say this little prayer:

“Lord, as I make my way to work today, please give me patience on the road; Guide me and protect me and all the other drivers around me”.

Many times, as I get into the car, I would say to myself, “you are going to take your time today.” I would start really good until some crazy driver decides to overtake me and cut himself in front of me.

Ooohhhh I would get so mad! Then I would press my foot on the gas pedal and take off after him just to pass him again. Not a good thing to do I know.

I’ll tell you the Lord has saved many a time from near misses. A few caused by me, but most caused by the other driver.

I don’t why I cannot be a slower driver. It’s part of my personality I guess, and I am just set in my ways. That’s why I pray that prayer every morning before I get on the road.

No doubt that when I encounter a slow vehicle in front of me, with no way to pass, that’s the Lord’s way of telling me, “Slow down, Lisa, slow down.”

Sometimes I am surprised that I have not gotten a ticket yet. Again, I know it is the Lord’s guidance and I have to tell myself, “Don’t push your luck.” But the Lord knows me so well, He does what He has to do to protect me from myself and from getting into any unnecessary mishaps.

For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. Psalm 91:11 NLT

That is why every evening when I get home I thank Him, by simply saying,

“Thank you, Lord, for bringing me home safely today.”

This post is part of the weekly Five Minute Friday link-up. This week’s prompt is the word SLOW.

  1. I appreciate your prayer, Lisa, “Lord, as I make my way to work today, please give me patience on the road; Guide me and protect me and all the other drivers around me”.
